Heidi Lucas, Associate Professor of Horn, IUP

Dr. Heidi Lucas is active as a performer and educator; she’s played with the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic, Memphis Symphony, Mississippi Symphony, and many others and appears on numerous albums, including two with Eastern Standard, with whom she regularly performs throughout the country and commissions and premieres new works. Other recent premieres include David Martynuik’s Concerto for Horn, which she twice performed with the Eastern Wind Symphony in 2019, and Frank Gulino’s Tales Untold, which she performed as the featured guest artist at the 2020 Suffolk County Day of Horn (Long Island, NY) and 2020 North Carolina Day of Horn (UNCG, Greensboro, NC). Appointed in 2016, she is the editor of print materials reviews for the Horn Call, the primary publication of the International Horn Society. She is currently associate professor of horn at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and served previously as associate professor of horn at the University of Southern Mississippi. She has taught courses in Artistic Innovations and Music History, and oversaw the reconfiguration of Instrumental Methods curriculum at the University of Delaware.

Abigail Pack, Professor of Horn, UNCG

Dr. Abigail Pack, Professor of Horn at UNCG, native of Roanoke, Virginia, received her training from East Carolina University (BMA), University of Iowa (MM), and University of Wisconsin-Madison (DMA) where she was a Bolz Teaching Fellow. Before assuming her current position at UNCG in 2008 she was horn professor at James Madison University from 2001 to 2008. She has also been on faculty at Knox College in Galesburg, IL; Western State College in Gunnison, CO; and taught in the Gunnison Watershed School District. An avid symphony player, Dr. Pack has held positions with the Barton Symphony Orchestra, Quad Cities Symphony Orchestra, Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and currently performs regularly with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival Orchestra, the Southwest Chamber Orchestra, the Opera Roanoke Orchestra, and the Southeast Brass Quintet with faculty from North Carolina School of the Arts, East Carolina University and UNC Chapel Hill. She has joined the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra as substitute utility horn, the Monarch Brass, and substitutes regularly with the Greensboro and Winston Salem Symphony Orchestras. Other venues have included performances with the Iowa Brass Quintet, Western Slope Brass Band, and Massanutten Brass Band. Recent performance and presentation highlights include the National Flute Association (Washington D.C. with the Montpelier Winds), the International Horn Symposium (University of Cape Town, South Africa, University of Alabama, Ithaca College), the International Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference (Chicago 2003 and 2008), the Kennedy Center of The Performing Arts (Washington), the International Double Reed Conference (Athens, GA), and as guest Clinician at the 2017 American Band College (Ashland, OR)
